Study on feasibility and method of live replacement of 110kV isolators

Although the fault rate of isolators of 110kV substations is high, currently only power-off overhaul is available. The complex operation and too long overhaul time reduce reliability of system power supply so it is in urgent need to study the method of live replacing isolators. In this paper, the live replacement method of 110kV isolators was studied, the operating process was subjected to simulated analysis via the ATP-EMTP software, and at the same time the safe distance of the operating process was studied, so as to verify the feasibility of the method. Furthermore, a set of diversion line insulation lifting device was developed according to site demand. The diversion line supporting lifter developed in this paper has operation reliability, strong applicability and operation convenience. The project of live replacement of 110kV isolators has considerable economic and social benefit, and is suitable for being popularized nationwide.
