A C-band fabry perot cavity antenna using Fr4 substrate

This paper presents the design of a FSS based high gain wideband fabry perot cavity antenna for C-band applications. Proposed antenna consist of an aperture coupled antenna as primary radiation source embedded inside the cavity formed by a layer of Frequency selective substrate based superstrate and a metallic ground plane. The superstrate is placed at a distance of half a wavelength from ground. Merging of resonance frequencies due to patch, coupling aperture of aperture coupled microstrip antenna and the superstrate layer result in a wideband. Simulation results show that the proposed antenna achieves an impedance band of 1.3 GHz from 4.3 GHz to 5.6 GHz with a maximum gain of 10.7dBi at 4.3 GHz.
