Design of standard revenue energy meter for electrical locomotive (Railway traction)

For electricity energy measurement, single phase energy meters are available with 1.0 accuracy class as per IS 13779 for railway traction. In India as per Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) and Central Electricity Authority (CEA) guidelines, all EHV (Extra High Voltage) consumers are to be supplied with 0.2S accuracy class of metering system. For Measurement of energy in multi-feeder circuit summation meters are used. In summation meter, there are some limitations for energy measurement due to summation CT. In this paper design and development of two phase four wire energy meter for Electrical Locomotive i.e. Railway Traction is explained. The 0.2S accuracy class traction meter is designed by using normal three phase four wire meter. Without using summation meter energy can be measured accurately at multi-feeder railway traction system. The novelty or contribution of the paper is only based on the design and application of PT coil. In existing meter, PT coil of 63.5 rated volts is used. In this modified traction meter the PT coil voltage is 110V. Results are validated in laboratory by standard practice.
