An energy management scheme for grid connected EVs charging stations

This paper presents new energy management scheme for charging stations which reduces the load demand as well as load fluctuations on main distribution grid. The increasing use of electrical vehicles (EVs) and hybrid EVs raises the need of more charging stations. Increase in number of charging stations increases the power demand to high rate. This causes an extra burden on main supporting grid. And most importantly increases the load fluctuations on to the main distribution grid. In this novel control scheme, the different charging stations takes the constant power from grid throughout its operation and acts like constant load. The two layer control scheme is used to improve reliability of overall system in case of grid or any other charging stations failure. The charging stations consist of renewable sources like photovoltaic, wind, etc which helps in reducing green house gases as well as the operational cost of charging station. The simulation studies are carried out for proposed control algorithm in MATLAB Simulink environment and in real time simulator (OPAL-RT).
