An analysis of the impact of the driver's height on their visual field range

The driver's visual field as seen from their seat is one of the most fundamental prerequisites for road safety. However, there is an area around the vehicle that remains invisible to the driver. It is a so-called blind spot, i.e., an area around the vehicle which the driver is not able to see through the windscreen and the side windows as well as in the exterior and interior rear-view mirrors. The field of vision may be limited by the components of the vehicle's interior and holders and other accessories mounted on the windscreen or the dashboard by the vehicle users. Blind spots around the vehicle can hinder performing manoeuvres and be a cause of collisions and road accidents. Therefore, an appropriate direct and indirect field of vision is of such immense importance in contributing to road safety. Many automotive manufacturers offer their customers systems which increase the field of vision. Such systems alert the driver of other road users present in the blind spots area around the vehicle and permit performing safe manoeuvres. The article presents the percentage of blind spots in the visual field of drivers of different height. Due to the fact that the position of the driver has an effect on the size and range of the areas remaining invisible, the impact of the seat height adjustment on the size and range of the blind spots area around the vehicle is also shown here.
