Foundations design of multiple vertical mills focused on vibration mitigation

In this work a computational procedure for evaluating the dynamic effects of multiple vertical mills operating simultaneously is presented and discussed. In this regard, the effect of different parameters such as soils dynamic properties, vertical mills proximity and the damping parameter of the involved soils are evaluated. The aim of the presented procedure is the accurate evaluation of the effects of the operations of multiple vertical mills on the resulting vibrations in their foundations and in other buildings in the proximity. Based on this, the most appropriate design measurements may be adopted with the purpose to mitigate the resulting vibrations during the simultaneous operation of multiple vertical mills. To demonstrate the capabilities of the proposed computational procedure for evaluating the resulting vibrations during the simultaneous operations of vertical mills, numerical results related to real cases of cement plants are presented, where the foundations of the existing multiple vertical mills were designed following the numerical procedure detailed in this work.
