Investigation on the performance analysis of the IEEE 802.11a standard based WSN with QoS application

This paper evaluates the performance of IEEE 802.11a standard Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) for Ad-Hoc E-health large scale applications. The performance of the network is analyzed in terms of overall latency, throughput, number of hops and retransmission rate by using the discreet event OPNET (version 14.5) simulator. Performance investigation started with applying QoS while adding medical audio and video monitoring into specific nodes to determine the best network performance in such a case when urgent videos, audios and images are needed for proper diagnosis and assessment for patients. When the number of nodes is 32, it is found that the application of QoS improves the performance of the network (about 62.5 % and 77%) in terms of throughput and latency respectively.
