An attempt to understand information processing capability in complex networks

A steady increase in complex systems is currently observed, thereby establishing an increased need for the use of statistical methods to analyze complex systems. In this paper, drawing upon several views of complex systems, we contemplate a complex system as network mapped from a system that primarily constitutes of interactions observed among system components, interactions of human actors in the system, and the influence of human interaction on system components. An initial attempt by the authors to understand the structural importance of the nodes in information processing capability of a network, from an information theory perspective is portrayed. Few simple examples of networks are used to illustrate on how the concept of entropy can be used to understand their structural emergence. Further, an attempt in inclusion of human actors and decision making in systems is portrayed with the help of expected value theory where in, a node is contemplated to be a decision maker, and the creation of an edge between two given nodes to be an act of communication.
