Using mobile technology in an adventure sport

The last decade has seen technology seamlessly integrated into sporting activities. From decision making to determining the outcome of the sporting event to after performance analysis, technology has cemented itself as a vital part of the sporting industry. On the extreme side of the sporting industry is adventure sport. This sport often places an individual in remote locations, where if an emergency situation occurs could leave the individual stranded with limited communication options. The purpose of this paper is to determine the current use of mobile technology in ocean and river kayaking in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa.
