Wireless transceiver design for visible light communication

With substantial increase in mobile devices like, smart phones, tablets and the various upcoming Internet of Things, there is an ongoing demand for spectrum. The Radio Frequency (RF) spectra have exhausted and researchers are exploring the new wireless communication alternatives. Visible Light Communication (VLC) (or Li-Fi), is one of the potential wireless technologies for catering indoor environment communications in future 5G systems. An experimental setup made in the laboratory demonstrates how a VLC link can be established between two computers. The data rate of 300 bits/sec has been achieved using this prototype. The coverage achieved is about 2 meters. The proposed transceiver uses Lasers for both downstream and upstream keeping the data rate equal. The design can help devices to connect with each other without any complexity and can be a plug and play device. The prototype used is capable of handling communication of text, video and audio data.
