A survey on depth map estimation strategies

In standard image acquisition systems, depth information is always missing. Because of this, several techniques have been presented to take out this lost depth. Depth estimation targets at figuring out the structure and distance of objects in a picture by employing either single or multiple views. In this paper, a review of active and passive methods of estimating depth maps is presented along with a discussion of monocular and multiview systems for calculating depth information. Visual and quantitative comparisons of different depth estimation approaches have also been discussed here.
