A novel GPP-based buffer management method for IP data in baseband process of C-RAN

Cloud-radio access network (C-RAN) is a novel paradigm of communication systems, driven by the growth of mobile users and their data traffic. This novel mobile network architecture multiplexes its baseband resources in response to real-time constraints of network, which requires new design approach of protocol stack in baseband process. In this paper, we propose a buffer management method to handle the high-density IP data for baseband process on general purpose processor (GPP) platform. Firstly, we give a short introduction on the C-RAN architecture and the new design approach of protocol stack. Then, we discuss the importance of buffer management along with differences between the common usage of buffer and our method. At last, the test results are provided to show the benefits of the proposed method, and the functionality of the prototype is verified.
