Modelling and analysis of a harmonic filter for a Grid connected DFIG underfault condition

This paper describes the controlling and analysis of harmonics under different fault conditions in a grid connected double fed induction generator (DFIG) based wind turbine system. Harmonics are the basically current & voltage waveforms of high frequencies that cause severe power quality issues in any power system & because of its presence, electrical equipments & machinery can break down & these can pose challenges for power engineers. Wind energy, being a promising sector in renewable energy is now being integrated into the grid system and become a part of hybrid power system. DFIG, one of the most popular Wind energy generators is studied in this paper with dynamic average value model of its AC/DC/AC converter under no fault & single line fault conditions in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. The response of both grid side & wind side with various harmonics components are evaluated here. The above simulation is carried out with the implementation of C-type High Pass Harmonic Filter in the model so as to study the effect of the use of the filter for harmonic reduction in cases of fault. The FFT Analysis of the proposed system is examined and compared with and without using harmonic filter (HF).
