Compact stepped slot antenna with unidirectional radiation for animal head imaging system

The design of a compact slot antenna for animal head imaging system is presented. The antenna is designed to operate across the band from 1.3 GHz to 4.5 GHz, which can be used for animal head imaging systems. It is a quarter effective wavelength stepped slot cut near the edge of a finite ground plane, and fed using a microstrip-slot transition. The antenna provides a wide impedance bandwidth with the proper location of the slot in the ground plane and feeding microstrip-slot transition. The total size of the antenna is 58 mm × 44 mm. The antenna has unidirectional radiation with an average front-to-back ratio of 5 dB.
