Simple and secure internet voting scheme using generalized paillier cryptosystem

Election is one of the most important activities in a democratic society. The traditional voting system becomes inconvenient for the people who cannot visit the polling booth for vote casting. With rapid development of information technology, web based Internet voting system is more interesting to use for the countries where voting participation is low and it is also useful for expatriates. Security is a big concern for Internet voting. In this paper, a secure Internet voting protocol that is suitable for large scale election using a generalized version of Paillier homomorphic cryptosystem is proposed. This generalized version allows adjusting the block length of the scheme even after the public key has been fixed, without losing the homomorphic property. The proposed system ensures security requirements such as authentication, accuracy, anonymity, receipt-freeness, reliability, verifiability and fairness in the election.
