A MPPT control scheme for standalone PMSG system with single active bridge

This paper presents a control scheme for standalone Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) wind system using Single Active Bridge (SAB). Standalone systems are used to power up the 1-Φ home appliances in hilly areas, island areas and remote areas. The requirement for standalone system is to have continuous power to the load without any interruption. Thus, battery energy storage is employed. Tip Speed Ratio (TSR) control scheme is used for extracting maximum power from the wind turbine. A SAB is used for boosting the DC voltage. With the proposed control strategy the phase angle of PWM pulses for SAB is adjusted to maintain constant tip speed ratio such that the maximum power from the wind is extracted. Simulation results are presented with varying wind speed and load power. A 2kW PMSG wind turbine is simulated in Matalab/Simulink. With the proposed control scheme SAB extract maximum power from the wind turbine. Battery furnishes the shortage power to the load when wind power is lesser compared to the load power and stores the surplus power when the wind power is greater compared to the load power. The load voltage and frequency are maintained at 230V and 50Hz respectively for load and wind speed variations.
