New design of dual-band microstrip antenna for Wi-Max and WLAN applications

This paper presents a dual band microstrip antenna design for Wi-Max applications at (3.5 GHz and 5.8GHz) respectively. The proposed antenna uses a rectangular patch fed by a 50 Q microstrip line. The impedance bandwidth, gain and reflection coefficient are improved by inserting two rectangular slots in the patch and three slots in the ground plane. The antenna dimension is (40 × 40 × 1.57) mm with FR-4 substrate of (ε_r =4.3) and loss tangent of (0.025). Simulation result obtained using CST 2016 software. The results showed that the proposed antenna has reflection coefficient about (-32.04 dB and -21.5 dB) at 3.5GHz and 5.8 GHz respectively with good bandwidth and gain values 3.93 dB at 3.5 GHz and (4.91) dB at 5.8 GHz and voltage standing wave ratio less than 2.0 at the desired frequency.
