High frequency behavior of large passive components for HVDC applications

Voltage source converter (VSC) for transmission purposes are predominantly of cell type topology. This converters are known for an excellent power quality. Due to the operation principal distortions are generated in particular in the higher frequency range where the behavior of the passive components might have a significant impact on the generated distortions. Paper presents first measurement results up to a frequency of 30 MHz for a submodule capacitor and two different arm induc­tors. It highlights the measurement procedure and introduces a first modeling attempt for a lumped parameter model.
