An energy aware routing algorithm for software defined wireless sensor networks

How to reduce energy consumption and extend network lifetime in the energy-constrained wireless sensor network has been a hot research topic. At the network layer, many distributed energy efficient route optimization algorithms have already been proposed. However, these algorithms make the sensor nodes take a lot of control calculations beyond the data forwarding, which restricts the further improvement of energy efficiency. This paper proposes an energy aware minimum weight path algorithm (EAMWPA) in software defined wireless sensor network. The algorithm divides the energy of sensor nodes into several energy levels. The controller, after sensing the changes of energy levels, adjusts link weights according to the energy levels of all nodes and distance, then re-draws the minimum weight paths from all the nodes to the controller using the global network topology. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can effectively balance energy of nodes and prolong the network lifetime compared with some typical routing algorithms.
