Coplanar waveguide based planar RF sensor for the detection of adulteration in oils

A coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed planar RF resonator for the detection of adulteration in oils is presented. The CPW waveguide consists an artificially engineered resonant structure at the center line and it is optimized to work in the ISM band of frequency (2.42 GHz). The proposed sensor is highly sensitive and requires only small volume of liquid under test (typically in microliter). The designed sensor is fabricated and experimentally tested for the detection of adulteration in various oils using the network analyzer. Although this work deals only with oil samples, the sensor can be successfully used for the adulteration detection of various kinds of other liquids. The high sensitivity and detection of adulteration using microliter quantity of the sample can make this sensor a good candidate for the quality control process in various industries.
