Modified U-slot cut rectangular patch antenna for wideband response

Bandwidth realized in U-slot cut patch antenna depends upon the aspect ratio of U-slot and in wider U-slots, impedance matching is difficult to realize. In this paper, novel technique to realize broadband response in wider U-slot design is presented. The modifications in U-slot, alters the input impedance at modified patch modes which yields wider BW. On substrate thickness of 0.065λ0, it gives more than 250 MHz (>25%) of bandwidth. Further its slot cut variation is presented. It yields increased bandwidth of more than 300 MHz (>30%). Modified U-slot cut designs yields broadside pattern with peak gain of more than 8 dBi.
