Clustering routing protocol based on segmentation for vehicular ad hoc networks

In order to reduce the complexity of searching relay node in the forwarding area of the city environment and to reduce the average hop count and transmission delay from the source node to the destination node, a clustering routing protocol based on segmentation (CRPBS) in the vehicular ad hoc networks is proposed. The size of the cluster is set in the forwarding section, the segments are divided into blocks of equal size according to the vehicle density in each cluster, and then the cluster head for forwarding the data packets is determined according to the maximum lifetime principle in the block with the smallest waiting time. The simulation results show that compared with the CBDRP and EG-RAODV protocols, the proposed protocol has the smaller average number of hops and the smaller average delay, and the communication performance is better.
