Adaptive estimators of output SNR for random channels

Matched and adaptive subspace detectors are actually maximum-likelihood estimators of the output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). This means they may be used for the dual purpose of decoding symbols (or detecting targets) and estimating channel quality. We develop their dual function; and review probability distributions and performances for these SNR estimators.
