Interlacing of radar sparse Doppler waveforms based on minimum redundancy bursts & their HR Doppler processing: New paradigm for MFR radar time budget optimisation

Main challenge of new Multifunction radar is the best use of the radar time budget in order to optimise the global radar utility. The radar resources are usually balanced & allocated mainly between waveforms for Search Dwells and waveforms for Track Dwells. Classically, for the tracking function, the radar time budget could be improved by nesting & interleaving dwells : when the array is waiting for the echoes from a Track dwell (a target at a specific range interval), transmition or reception phases of an other dwell can be interleaved. This approach reduces useless waiting during reception phases, but is limited by both drawbacks : the transmition time is limited because of energy constraints given by the duty cycle limit that prevents damage caused by over-consuming energy such that components don't overheat, the beamscheduling algorithm becomes more complex with interleaved waveforms taking into account jointly timing requirements (release time, deadline, update rate, waveform duration) and physical factors (duty cycle limit).
