Method limiting dynamic loads of electromechanical systems of plate mill stand

The authors highlight the relevancy of limiting dynamic loads of mechatronic systems of rolling mills at metal gripping by rolls. They consider oscillograph records registered at the 5,000 mm plate mill of Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works. These records confirm that the dynamic torque significantly exceeds its average value in the rolling mode. The authors have developed the method reducing dynamic loads by automatic increase of the roll gap before gripping the stock with their subsequent return to the specified position. They describe the developed mathematical model and results of simulation of the dynamic mode at different rates of roll gap changes after gripping. The paper offers the outcome of experiments involving operation of electric drives of the 5,000 mm rolling mill according to the proposed method. Finally, it provides recommendations for commercialization of this method at hot-rolling mills subject to shock loading.
