Performance analysis of rain attenuation for 2 GHz and 10 GHz using different models for satellite applications

Rain attenuation is the critical factor, which affects the satellite transmitted signal above 7 GHz frequencies for tropics as the rain rate is higher in these areas. Modelling for rain attenuation for Satellite signal reception, is possible using real time corrections and accurate data. Rain Attenuation increases with the frequency. However, in this paper effect of rain attenuations in the S-band (2GHz) region as IRNSS operating in this frequency and other in X band (10GHz) in the higher frequency of operation as attenuation increases with the frequency. Rain attenuation is calculated using different models like, Crane Global (two-component), SAM, ITU-R, Garcia-Lopez models. Attenuation is calculated by applying above models for the city of Visakhapatnam in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India.
