Experimental Study of Normal Zone Propagation in the Short Sample of Bi-2223/Ag/AgMg Tape in Two Different Cooling Modes

The normal zone propagation evolution of a short sample of Bi-2223/Ag/AgMg high-temperature superconducting tape has been investigated. We considered two different cooling modes; conduction-convection and only convection. For different currents, the minimum quench energy and the normal zone propagation velocity (NZPV) were measured and compared. The results show that the NZPV changes are more dominated by cooling system than the transport current.
