Guidelines of brain-based learning through serious game for slow reader students

The development of digital gaming industry is growing and expanding in various fields including education. A variety of techniques and teaching aids have been used by teachers in teaching and learning (T&L) to improve the performance and motivation of students in Malay language literacy skills. To ensure the effectiveness of a T&L process, a more comprehensive approach is needed. A serious game model compatible brain-based learning (BBL) for slow reader students (SRS) is proposed to achieve the objectives of technology in education to improve students' literacy skills and motivation for more fun learning experience. A preliminary study was carried out on the SRS in primary schools that offer Pemulihan and LINUS programs. This study used a qualitative methodology that involves interviews with teachers and classroom observations in order to understand the situation, requirements and needs of the SRS in T&L. The results of the preliminary study analysis will be used to draft a guideline of serious game model, which is compatible BBL for SRS. The teachers also strongly support the action to introduce a serious game approach to encourage the students to continue learning.
