Aquaponic growbed siphon water flow status acquisition and control using fog server

Internet of Thing (IoT) enables data to be uploaded and aggregated in cloud. Many type of data will be available in the cloud including rubbish. Cloud data normally acts as history. It will be almost impossible to react instantly based on the cloud data since the delivery not based on real-time. Fog server introduced as a layer between device and the cloud. The server can react as the decision center based on the gathered real-time data. It also has the capability to provide analysis and instruct the related devices accordingly. Modern aquaculture need to involve continuous and real time electronic data acquisition and device. The parameter quite numbers and the update period vary — some daily based and some quite often. By implementing fog server, only selected data will be uploaded to the cloud and related vast number of data remains in the fog server. By doing this, surface level analysis can be done by looking at the cloud data. If there is something wrong condition triggered, user directly goes to fog server to do further analysis and related action can be done immediately. Aquaponics, from Integrated MultiTrophic Aquaculture (IMTA) class, requires water quality and flow control. This paper will show how to regulate water control in aquaponic growbed using fog server.
