The performance of DSP in fingerprint processing

People identification is an unavoidable requirement in order to better secure systems, networks and even people. The idea of using biometrics is not new, but it has only recently begun to be exploited by taking advantage of the great technological evolution. A biometric application requires a processing system having interesting computing capacity and resources limited in space and energy; hence the importance of using embedded systems in biometric recognition applications. The use of fingerprinting is now one of the most reliable technologies on the market to authenticate an individual. This technology is simple to use and quick to implement. On the other hand DSP (Digital Signal Processor) are the most suitable systems in signal processing (Image, sound, video, etc.). This paper proposes a study of the performance of a DSP in image processing used for fingerprint biometric identification.
