An energy efficient self organizing multicast routing protocol for Internet of Things

Reliable network can be constructed for Internet of Things (IoT) with the help of tree structure. We introduce an Energy Efficient Self-organizing Multicast Routing Protocol (ESMR) for IoT network. According to ESMR, the nodes are categorized under two sorts: one is the network node and another is the non-network node. The nodes which are already in the network are referred as the network nodes. The non-network node utilizes diverse measurements along with Markov process, to measure a network node's weight. The node with highest weight will be chosen as a sink node. The non-network node then sends request to the sink node to enter into the network. Thus a in a series of layer fashion, tree structured network can be constructed. The network structure is balanced progressively to adjust energy utilization and to draw out system lifetime by performing automatic tree pruning operation. As the network expands the packet loss proportion won't build more which in turn can improve the network lifespan. At last ESMR is compared with Adaptive demand driven multicast routing (ADMR) protocol, Destination sequence distance vector routing (DSDV), and ad-hoc on demand distance vector routing (AODV) to show its efficiency in improving the success rate of packets.
