Pitch control dynamic study of isolated wind turbine based self-excited induction generator under realistic wind speed profiles

This paper studies performance of a stand-alone self-excited induction generator (SEIG) has driven by a variable speed wind turbine. The paper also provides an efficient pitch angle control technique for wind speeds above the rated speed. The control strategy discussed for the wind turbine side. The main goal of the paper is the dynamic study of SEIG under realistic and different wind speeds. A general method for generating realistic wind speed is also introduced in this paper. Attention focused on the effect of the wind speed on the generated voltage, pitch angle and the angular speed of the rotor. The models for real wind speed, the wind turbine, PI pitch angle controller and the SEIG discussed and simulated by using the MATLAB program based on the dynamic equations of each model. The effect of the wind speed variation on the steady state generated voltage and the rotor speed studied. This control provides a constant output voltage, frequency, and rotor angular speed. The control system proved that it is stable and reliable for different wind speeds up to 26 m/s which capable of delivering to variable loads.
