HVDC converter station protection based on pattern recognition technique

This paper study faults detection and faults classification for High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Converter station. Faults are simulated and analyzed at rectifier side using the image processing technique through pixel calculation after image treatment. The image processing technique is faster method, effectively stored and effectively transmitted solution to detect several conditions of abnormality. The proposed technique can discriminate between external faults and internal faults. and also classify type of internal faults into asymmetrical faults as phase to ground fault and symmetrical faults as three phase fault. The HVDC Converter Station model will be simulated in Alternative transient program (ATP) and the output waveform from ATP will be analyzed using MATLAB program to approach quick and secure fault detection.
