Full duplex millimeter-wave Radio-Over-Fiber system using optical heterodyning and self-homodyning

A full duplex millimeter wave Radio over Fiber (RoF) system employing optical heterodyning based signal generation at the transmitter and data recovery based on self homodyning technique. Two combination of optical heterodyning technique are employed in which the desired frequency of the optical mm wave signal is obtained as the frequency offset of the two uncorrelated lasers. By utilizing the RF self homodyning technique at the data recovery process, the undesired phase noise in the generated millimeter wave signal can be avoided. To confirm the performance of proposed system, data transmission based on Quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) through the generated mm wave and its data recovery is analyzed. Carrier recovery for the transmission of uplink data is carried out by incorporating an optical filter at the base station. This system delivers broadband wireless services to customers. It has the potential to be compatible with other access technologies such as flber-to the-home (FTTH) and 5g technology.
