Comparative study of famous conductivity models for low density polyethylene

High voltage direct current (HVDC) cables widely use low density polyethylene (LDPE) as main insulation because of its associated advantages. Though, it has been underlined that, it displays non-linear conduction current (charge transport in dielectric) when used under high electric field. Different charge transport models have been proposed for understanding the conduction current in LDPE, such as Pool-Frenkel, Hopping model, Schottky model etc. These models explain the process of charge transfer through the material; using different kinds of traps present [1-4]. In this paper comparative study has been done for famous charge transport models with experimentally obtained conductivity for a wide range of electric field (20 kV/mm to 200 kV/mm) and at different temperatures (30° C, 50° C).
