A novel selection of inter-view reference frame based on the direction of motion

Based on the study of various methods involved in getting the benefit of the inter-view redundancy, a new technique is suggested in this paper. The complexity of choosing the reference frames dynamically from different views is simplified. Starting with the camera placed in the center of the scene as well starting with the middle columns of the Macro Block of a single frame, rule out the possibility of motion in the frame followed by motion in the selected MB. Now detect the motion is leftwards or rightwards and choose the reference view accordingly to predict the selected MB. Once the motion direction is found, limit the number of searches in the adjacent views to two. Repeat for each MB starting with the central view. This helps in ease of prediction and lesser storage of reference frames from different views. The challenges decrease with the increase in the number of cameras possible to place in the area of interest which in turn decrease the challenge for the compression. The proposed method best fits the problem of compressing multiple views closely placed cameras recording a scene from different angles.
