Impact of channel variation on throughput of macro UE in heterogeneous network

The Femto cells are small cells deployed over macro cell to increase the indoor coverage and system capacity. The deployment of small cells over macro cell is referred to as Heterogeneous Networks (HetNets). It is introduced in Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) network. The system performance is improved through the efficient utilization of spectrum. It is achieved by sharing the same spectrum between macro cell and femto cell. Due to user planned deployment and spectrum sharing, femto cell causes severe downlink interference to Macro User Equipment (MUE). The objective of this research is to mitigate downlink cross-tier interference experienced by MUE when placed within the femto cell coverage. The impact of Path Loss and shadowing experienced by MUE is analyzed in terms of Signal to Interference plus Noise Ratio (SINR) and throughput. From the simulation results, it has been found that the received power exhibits dependence on the shadowing effect present in the wireless channel.
