An experimental evaluation of visible light communication utilizing telecommunications instructional modelling system

This paper experimentally evaluates the potential usage of the Telecommunications Instructional Modelling System (TIMS) for conducting educational experiments for Visible Light Communication (VLC). Two different experiments were conducted and discussed. The first one considers an analog signal to drive a VLC system, while the second one tests a digital modulation scheme. Both experiments showed that TIMS can be easily adapted using simple electronic components to implement educational VLC system, which is much preferred than using traditional discrete electronic components, especially at the early stage of learning this new technology.
