Optimization of TCSC with multi objective firefly algorithm for enhancing SMIB system

In case of an interconnected power system; the real transfer of power from one area to another might take inadvertent routes depending on impedances of transmission lines connecting the regions. TCSC is a series compensating device, which improves the transfer of power level between sending end to receiving end and monitors the system. Tuning of the optimal value of TCSC parameter has been done for better stability. Different control techniques and designs have been proposed in an optimization problem to tune the TCSC. Detailed study of remote input signal corresponding to speed deviation is employed by using Firefly algorithm and Differential evolution (DE) optimization. This study describes the performance of TCSC controller with proper selection of the objective function for getting optimum value of controller parameter. Simulation results of the proposed model shows that TCSC shows outstanding performance in damping out power system oscillation under different loading and perturbation.
