Optimization of Grounding Grids Design for a Square-Shaped Mesh

The basic configuration of a grounding grid, normally square or rectangular shape, is constituted by metallic conductors and rods forming two-dimensional grids. So, from the point of view of the safety of the people and equipment, the grounding grid is the most important part of an electrical system. When the grid is constituted by meshes and ground rods, the ground rods are only effective if a significant number is designed to maintain all the electrical system in the same potential. Therefore, the objective of this work is an optimization of grounding grids design, in order to maintain satisfactory performance and be able to safeguard the surroundings of the grounded installations. This paper describes experimental results for a square-shaped mesh.
