Green campus: Measurements and modeling

Pakistan, a 70 years old independent state is still in the grip of serious power shortage and has still not been able to meet its demand of power generation. As a result, all sections of lives have been adversely affected. Carbon Dioxide, a greenhouse gas, is the main pollutant that is warming Earth. Industrial activities affect the ecosystem as it produces twice more CO
₂
than natural processes can absorb. Reducing energy demands by focusing more on electricity generation could be costly and can impair human health as well as ecosystem. It is vital to focus on discovering possible innovative ways to save energy or create green environment rather than on the generation of energy. In this paper, a linear mathematical model is built and validated based on the measurements of real-time power consumption data. Later, the work focuses on deploying energy efficient techniques to reduce energy consumption and create green environment. The results show that the model can be utilized to forecast the power consumption behaviour as well as assess the impact of implementing different energy efficient schemes, where the goal is to find the level of power consumption to accommodate ourselves within power consumption budget.
