An energy efficient link stability based routing scheme for wireless sensor networks

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) consist of large number of low configuration nodes. These sensor nodes are more constraint towards memory, processing and energy. During transmission, the low power radio signals are very sensitive to the noise interference and for the multipath distortions. Hence it is necessary to provide a stable link among the nodes in the networks. In this paper, a Link Quality Reliable Routing Protocol (LQRRP) which provides link reliability and energy efficiency for communication between nodes is proposed. This LQRRP selects routes on the based on the link quality metrics includes number of re-transmission count, packet delivery ratio and weight. The LQRRP provides link stability for routing process during the transmission. In addition to this, the proposed protocol also prioritizes the route in the multi-hop communication. The experimental result shows that the proposed LQRRP performed well when compare to the existing routing protocols in WSN. Overall, this work reduces the energy consumption of each node and the delay in sensor networks.
