Web enabled monitoring system for harmful radiation detection

The Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a network of low level devices which are capable of sensing physical attributes like temperature, pressure, humidity, light, sound, radiation, vibration, etc. They were initially used for monitoring an object or a small confined area for any abnormality in a specific physical parameter. Unless they are connected with World Wide Web (WWW), they are mere local monitoring system which is of minimal use. By connecting with Internet many such WSNs can be interconnected and can be made available to many people of authority who can directly monitor or take action for the abnormality in the data being sensed by the WSN. With the growing demand of power supply all over the state, there is a need to shift from conventional power generation system to nuclear power plants for power generation. But the term “Harmful radiation” threatens the industrial growth of our nation in the current scenario. So by designing a proper WSN equipped with sensors for detection of harmful radiation and connecting with WWW for all the time monitoring would be one of the measures to reduce the threat posed by radiation hazards.
