The influencing factors and effects on comprehension of e-reading

With the increase use of e-reading in every aspect of daily life, people are becoming reliant on their e-readers to comprehend information from newspapers, magazines or textbooks. The purpose of this study is to figure out if there is a significant difference between the comprehension levels through e-books and paper books. Teaching and learning with e-books occurs differently than that in traditional classrooms and can arouse new challenges to instructors and learners. This research studies the influencing factors and impacts of the comprehension levels in e-learning to identify the challenges and consider the best practice solutions to ensure learning success. The survey data of comprehension scores come from 30 persons selected randomly. After these individuals finished reading material, and answered the questionnaire survey, the scores and opinions are investigated using statistical analysis method, such as t-test, to calculate the means and ranges. The results indicate that the comprehension levels between e-reading and paper-reading are different. E-reading is 0.667 points (out of 10 points) lower than paper-reading on same materials and in the same amount of time.
