A low-cost direct reading system for gas meter based on machine vision

In order to read out the digits on the gas meter more conveniently and effectively, a low-cost direct reading system based on machine vision is presented in this paper. Specifically, the system is mainly composed of camera module, light source, main control board, wireless transmission module and handheld meter reading device. Through the adaptive threshold binaryzation, digital extraction and template matching algorithm, this system can automatically identify the digits on the gas meter. The experimental results show that the system can successfully identify the digits on the gas meter and send the results to the handheld meter reading device.
