An image compression and classification method by reducing the blocking effect

In recent years, the requirement of data storage and maintenance is increasing rapidly. For proper management of these, there is a need for developing an efficient compression method. In this paper, dot diffused block truncation coding scheme is used for compression and at the same time, for image classification. In this method, the input image is divided into several non-overlapped blocks before processing. Therefore, after reconstruction, blocking effect occurs along its boundary. This paper proposes a method for effective compression by minimizing the blocking effect. A comparative study on the quality parameters like Mean Square Error (MSE), Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) of the images is made with that of existing encoding system. Also describes the method for image classification and retrieval.
