Optimal parameter selection of fractional order PIλ controller for speed control of DC motor

Actual and existing dynamic systems are effectively described and analyzed by application of fractional order dynamic model based on fractional calculus or, differentiation or integration of the non-integer order. Fractional order controller PI

is therefore anticipated to have better response compared to classical order PI Controller. This work presents the application of the Fractional PI
^λ
controller to attain and reach the expected speed of the DC Motor. The three technical constants of the non-integer order controller are obtained by the two optimization techniques, i.e. Particle swarm optimization technique (PSO) and Bacterial foraging optimization (BFO) technique. A new non-linear function using integral square error, settling-time, rise time and maximum overshoot has been proposed. Minimization of the objective function using the above mentioned techniques has led to optimal parameter selection of the controllers. The performances of the controllers have been examined for speed tracking. The controllers achieve speed reference tracking successfully even in presence of 50% of rated load torque.
