Comparative study on energy savings due to daylight and artificial lighting integration for different glazing materials

This paper deals with the comparative study on energy savings through simulation of daylight integrated artificial lighting system in Matlab environment for different glazing materials. The dimming levels of all artificial light sources are set accordingly so that contribution from artificial lighting system, together with calculated available daylight meets desired lighting level and uniformity on horizontal working plane. These are demonstrated by isolux diagram and illuminance distribution with north facing window orientation during summer. Database is generated for average daylight, % uniformity of illuminance for daylight, integrated light and lighting load reduction for three glazing materials (Oceanic Blue, Radiant Amber and Leaf Green) for five different times from 8am to 4pm. Results have shown that after proper integration, maximum 45% reduction in artificial lighting energy consumption can be obtained in case of Oceanic Blue which has the highest VLT (Visual Light Transmittance) among three of used glazing materials.
