Design of circular ring microstrip patch antenna with an H-shaped slot on the ground plane for WiMAX

To support WiMAX technology, it takes an antenna which has the characteristics that it is not only compatible but also it should be small, lightweight and portable, so it can be assembled easily without having to increase the dimensions and weight. One antenna that has the appropriate characteristics is microstrip antenna. In this paper is to design circular ring microstrip patch antenna using direct feed line techniques with an H-shaped slot on the ground plane for WiMAX applications that has working frequency of 2,300-2,390 MHz. The addition of H-shaped slot on the ground plane element produces a wider bandwidth than the original characteristics. By using an antenna simulator Ansoft HFSS Ver. 15.0.2, the optimum design with reference of VSWR <; 1.5 and Return Loss <; -10 dB produces bandwidth of 200 MHz antenna. The measurement results show that the bandwidth produced by Antenna I to IV respectively has a value of 194 MHz, 183 MHz, 48 MHz, 366 MHz with reference VSWR <; 1.9 and Return Loss <; -10 dB.
