High-resolution observation of soil water dynamics in the rooting zone: A case study for blueberry plants

This paper describes soil moisture movements with high spatiotemporal resolution in the rooting zone of a growing blueberry plant. Soil moisture sensors were placed in an approximate grid pattern to monitor the changes in soil moisture during the growth of roots. Two-dimensional moisture changes were monitored in the experiment. Moisture absorption changed with time and a specific frequency response seemed to occur for water absorption. The results led us to confirm the fundamental knowledge on water dynamics in the rooting zone to optimize water-saving irrigation management.
